For the bronze sculpture, Maestro Battini first makes a clay model of the original in a
smaller scale. Creating together with the client, subtle details are refined on this
preliminary model before the casting of the final 1 to 1 is approved. Once in the
foundry, the final sculpt will be further augmented by the technique of "lost wax".
The entire procedure, including the remodeling wax at the foundry is carried out
personally by the Maestro, leaving no detail overlooked. Portraits can also be
realized in sculpture as either a bust or full length piece and in a variety of materials:
bronze, white bronze, cast iron, multiple alloys or marble.
For instance, the image on the right shows the bronze sculpture depicting the
Blessed founder of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, also known as the Order of
St. John. Commissioned by the Delegation S.M.O.M. of Pisa, this much admired piece
was brought to the altar of the Church of San Domenico, located in the historic
center of Pisa, and was blessed by the Archbishop of Pisa, in a ceremony on February
18, 2012.
Also in October 2015 a reliquary bust of the blessed Gerardo De Saxo, was realized
for the Scala City Council. Scala, located on the Amalfi Coast, is where Gerardo was
born in 1040.
With this artwork, placed in the city hall, the community has celebrated their
illustrious countryman, his values and teachings. The dedication and the blessing by
the Archbishop of Amalfi - Cava dei Tirreni, of the impressive sculpture, was also the
reason for the meeting organized by the Municipality of Scala, in collaboration with
The Sovereign Military Order of Malta, the European University Centre for Cultural
Heritage, and the Bell'Arte Cultural Association.
